Petition Circulator Guidelines
To be validated, petition signatures must strictly satisfy specific technical criteria. Following these procedures is essential so that every collected signature counts toward our campaign to Save Dallas City Hall.
Each petition sheet must legibly contain each voter's:
By law, every circulator—the individual gathering signatures—must execute an affidavit confirming they witnessed each signature firsthand and provided each signer the opportunity to review the complete charter amendment text printed on the reverse side. You will find this affidavit located in fine print along the bottom of each page.
NEVER EXECUTE the affidavit except when appearing before a public notary. You, as the petition circulator, are required to endorse every page directly alongside the notary official.
IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE SHEET :
Located in the upper right section of each page is a place to record your identity along with the sequential page count: ___ of ___. (e.g., 1 of 10, 2 of 10). Fill this out only when submitting your finished paperwork. Calculate the total count and complete the numbering at that point. This aggregated collection forms a “SET.”
In a SET, the circulator will need to sign EVERY SHEET. However only the FIRST and LAST page need to be notarized. (In this example page 1 and page10). Keep the set together (paper clip--do NOT staple).
Maintaining a secure chain of custody is essential to reaching our goal. Your role as a circulator is fundamental to this effort. Please reach out to Field Coordinator Luis Canosa at luiscanosa@icloud.com to arrange notary services and hand off collected pages whenever you gather a set of new signers. This keeps our signature counts accurate and maintains campaign momentum!
